We’ve seen the computer trend goes from desktops to laptops, then a year with netbooks then now with multi-platform tablets that was slowly paralleled with the introduction of ultrabooks. And today, Acer has unveiled a new series of ultrabooks with Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 .
Aspire Timeline Ultra M5 features 0.81-inch thickness in 14- and 15.6-inch sizes, Intel’s third-generation Ivy Bridge processors with Core i3 chips on standard config while there’s an option for Core-i5 upgrade, mated with a discrete GPU in the form of the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE, and Optimus technology is onboard that will automatically switches the built-in and discrete GPU depending on tasks to save power to meet Acer’s claims of battery life of up to 8 hours for both models.
Both models will also include 500GB hard drive along with a 20GB SSD for fast startup times and DVD drives. Integration-wise the units will include two USB 3.0 and a HDMI output. Interestingly, several Windows 7 versions will be on offer, and you’ll get a $15 upgrade to Windows 8 Pro included as part of the package.
